Resinworks

Gallery Processes

Polyurethane Resin is extremely versatile. It is easy to work with, it doesn't require a forge or a kiln, and it can generate a wide variety of appearances depending on how it is finished, or what additional elements are added to it's base components. It can mimic metal, porcelaine or stone, it can be filled with an assortment of fillers that change it's colour or even allow it to glow in the dark.

The resinworks of Vulpinoid Studio has developed over the years to create a wide variety of props and accessories using polyurenthane, as well as a number of other resins, foams and chemical processes.

The accompanying pages are designed to show the techniques we use to create our components and assemble them into finished products. It is also designed to showcase the resin items available through our online store.

Resinworks Gallery

The Resinworks Gallery contains a variety of the projects that Vulpinoid Studios has worked on over the past five years. The wide variety of work done during this time means that we have not been able to include everything created.

The gallery will be constantly updated as new projects are developed, especially in the areas of foams and larger scale projects where we hope to expand our options over the next few months.

If you see anything of interest in the gallery and would like more information or images, feel free to contact us via email and we'll try to answer any questions you may have.

Resinworks Processes

goggle sketch

Every resin component produced by Vulpinoid Studios is a carefully hand crafted piece. Most are carefully sculpted for hours over the course of days or even weeks until a desired look is achieved, many sculpted forms act as the basis for new ideas as the shapes evolve in organic and often unexpected ways.

Once a concept has been given form, it is turned into a silicone cast, for resin production. Once this is done, the initial sculpt can be given a variety of colours and textures depending on the desired result.

From initial concept to final piece can take anything up to a month (or longer for complex pieces), casting pieces from existing moulds can take as little as an hour or so (shorter if bulk runs of a half dozen or more are produced).

The process pages include a complete description and photographic archive for producing one of our more recent pieces, the Steampunk Goggles. From concept, through sculpt and cast, to finishing and assembly.

Resinworks Commissions

While most of our work is based on our own ideas, we've had a number of requests for the manufacture of specific pieces. The majority of these have been small scale items, but with negotiation and a good flow of communication, virtually anything is possible.

If you'd like to discuss a concept with us, please email us.
