FUBAR

You've been screwed...

At least one person wants you dead...

The only people you almost trust are people who don't necessarily trust you...

but you've got skills and talents that might just get you through...

...might just let you get some revenge...

...and might let you achieve your destiny.

Fubar is a low-preparation role-playing game focusing on a group of talented individuals who have been betrayed by the people they trust.

Using the Cyberpunk ethos of "Style over Substance" it provides a rough framework to tell a tale of revenge, deliberately leaving out certain key elements so that players can customise their game at the start of each play session. Character creation is quick (a name, four words and a sentence describing a goal) but as a game session progresses, these outlines are coloured and shaded to reveal complex figures desperately seeking vengeance and redemption.

Resources

Full Colour High-Resolution Game Download v3.2
Warning: This is a compressed version of the final file, it has been compacted for screen resolution only.
This is the third draft of the rules with expanded play examples (it has been kept to a maximum of 30 pages to qualify for a contest at 1km1kt, it may be expanded further once the contest is over, but I'm pretty happy with the document as it currently stands). If you have any comments about this document (whether it's good, or if you think it sucks dead circuitboards), please contact me.

Naked FUBAR (or FUBAR Microlite)
This is a condensed version of the rules compressed into 2 pages. It's basically designed as a quick reference sheet during play, it includes no play examples and some of the more complicated aspects of the rules have been stripped out, but it should be generally playable with only the text on this double sided page.

Sample Character Sheet

Blank FUBAR trait sheet This is a typical sheet that may be used by players to rite up the traits their character's acquire throughout the game, or to write up the locations, objects and organisations encountered during the course of a FUBAR story.

FUBAR Genre Booklets

Over the course of the next few weeks I'll be creating up some genre ideas for twisting FUBAR into new types of stories. Some of the examples include "All for One and One FUBAR" a setting for musketeers and french revolutionaries, "Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of FUBAR" for pirates and swashbucklers, and "High Plains FUBAR" for Westerns. Each of these will contain a range of sample locations, objectives and organisations, some sample characters and two quick new rules to twist the game into a better reflection of the genre. More information to come soon...
